Overview

The position will be responsible for ensuring Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) are properly applied to a variety of complex issues in a retail business environment. Position is primarily responsible for the daily oversight of a team of individuals conducting complex processing and related accounting transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a small staff of clerical and/or accounting personnel.
  • Assist accounting management in educating

    supervisory and clerical staff on accounting principles and the real-world application of those principles to daily and monthly processes.

  • Assist staff in resolving system and/or processing issues.
  • Develop and document a keen understanding of various complex business transactions and of the corresponding accounting implications by reviewing contracts and interviewing internal & external stakeholders, and consulting the relevant accounting guidance.
  • Discuss recommendations with accounting management, especially relevant to changes which will improve the accuracy and / or efficiency of existing processes.
  • Prepare and / or review monthly journal entries and account reconciliations to ensure accuracy, sufficient supporting documentation, and compliance with GAAP.
  • Review and appropriately respond to field requests for accounting adjustments.
  • Respond to monthly, quarterly, and annual audit requests from internal and external auditors.
  • Prepare written summaries of the appropriate accounting principles that should be applied to various business transactions.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors/4 Year Degree
  • Experience: 5+ years of GAAP, EDI, Accounting Systems, Supervisory Experience.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills are required to understand and appropriately respond to a variety of business process issues.
  • The successful candidate will have a proven history of successfully leading a team of non-exempt employees.
  • The position also requires strong computer skills.
  • Microsoft Office programs (particularly Word and Excel) are heavily used.
  • Knowledge of accounting systems and database concepts is essential.
  • Strong organizational skills are required to identify and prioritize deadlines across multiple assignments.
