Overview

The Sr. Accounting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the accounting workflow for all US and Canadian real estate lease contracts, supervising a team of employees tasked with setting up fixed, variable (CPI) and complex lease payments in compliance with lease agreements/ addendums, working cross functionally with multiple groups, and performing related month-end and quarter-end close processes.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of Lease Accounting Personnel which includes the lease accounting life cycle of setup/maintenance/termination, CPI and percent of sales calculations, ASC 840 lease classification testing, integrating acquired store leases, special/ adhoc lease reporting to landlords, and other ancillary functions.
  • Perform secondary quality reviews of lease data extraction packets and property management system (PMS) mainframe system input, and provide feedback to staff. Ensure the Lease Accounting team is processing payments in a timely manner. Assist staff in resolving processing and/or system issues.
  • Work cross functionally internally with Real-Estate, Legal, A/P, Property Accounting, and Treasury, on a routine bases to extract lease agreement financial data, establish lease payments and reporting protocol, and work externally with landlords with payment inquiries or reporting request.
  • Position is responsible for supervising key controls associated with lease accounting, responding to internal lease data request, ensuring compliance with accounting procedures and Sarbanes-Oxley 404 controls, and responding timely to quarterly and annual audit request.
  • Prepare and/or review monthly journal entries and account recons to ensure accurate, sufficiently supported documentation and compliance with GAAP.
  • Coordinate and oversee the annual sales reporting/payment process that occurs in Q1.
  • Assist with the documentation and updating of group’s lease processes and workflow, as well as assisting with the upcoming implementation of ASC 842 new accounting standards and new system implementation.

Qualifications

    • Bachelors / 4 Year Accounting Degree, CPA a plus
    • 5+ years of professional work experience, preferably in a large company environment
    • Excellent leadership skills are required with prior experience of developing, leading and motivating a successful team
    • Experience with Lease Accounting or familiarity with contracts a plus
    • Proficient with MS Excel and Oracle ERP systems required, mainframe systems a plus
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
    • Strong written and oral communication skills
    • Overall, must be able to perform in a fast paced environment with the ability to manage deadlines, competing priorities and ad hoc request
